Where do we come from?

Some say that in the beginning the earth was without form and the spirit of a God hovered over the water in the void. They say he spoke of light and there was light. He spoke of day and night, he spoke of plants, animals, insects, he spoke of everything in the universe and then he spoke of man and there was man. Apparently he moulded man in his image and likeness from the clay of the earth. He moulded him and he breathed life into him.

Some believe there is no God. They explore physics, biology, chemistry, metaphysics and all sorts of sciences to justify our existence in a logical theory. Some believe that God exists within every man and could be found on the inside. They believe in self enlightenment to elevate the soul to a God-like state. Some believe there are many gods governing mankind and different parts of creation. There is a god of thunder, a god of fire, a sun god, and so on.

Today the theories of the beginning and the involvement of a super-natural being are as varied as the differences in cultures and they are forever being remodelled to fit with the practices of the present. In fact some take the evolution of these stories to be proof that no one story can be trusted because each one is merely a manifestation of an idea or a state of mind which is constantly changing with time.

What are your thoughts?
